1948 Mack Pumper

General

The truck has been garaged its entire life
ENGINE AND MECHANICAL: Original ENF 707A 6 cylinder Mack gas engine runs great. Oil has been changed about every 500 miles. Probably due for an oil change now. Extra sock type new oil filter is included. Electric MACK tachometer was added. Bill changed the rear end out to a Mack 5 speed .7 overdrive transmission and this allows it to drive comfortably at 60 MPH at a good 1900 RPM. Brakes are about at 60% I am told. Radiator was rebuilt and there are new axle seals/rear end oil. Wheel bearing have been repacked, there are 3 batteries, one 12 V and two 6V that work together, so there is a toggle switch to alternate the batteries.
VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: 1948 Mack pumper, serial number 85LS1190 with 750 GPM two stage Hale pump. Bala Cynwyd Merion County PA was the first fire department it was commissioned for and I have the original photos of it coming off the assembly line in November 1947 along with the original owner’s manual. I have copies of the original purchase order and specifications from Merion County PA for the truck
New paint was DuPont Centari enamel, signal red. A can of extra paint is included. New windshield glass but side windows are the original with some yellowing. We never roll these up so we did not worry about that. Most every part of the truck has new chrome. The headlight buckets and rear load lights are original chrome but everything else is re-chromed and attached with new hardware. Interior is newer and not original. A custom cut rubber floor mat has been added that reduces engine noise. The prior owner Bill also installed a newer ladder end cover and have a hose bed tarp that is custom made to fit the bed
Fully loaded with equipment. Storage compartments are stuffed with extra fittings, nozzles, adapters, soft suction, monitor high GPM fog nozzle etc. Four framed original factory delivery photos we were able to secure from Mac. Also the extra new sock type oil filter and special vintage water pump grease. A new $800 custom heavy hitch is installed if you wish to haul a trailer.

Pump

PUMP SYSTEM: Tight is how I would sum up the pump system. The pump works great, the primer works, and includes 4 hard suctions.

Electrical

WARNING LIGHTS: The Mac lights up like a Christmas tree. 4 alternating sealed beam flashers and a restored Buckeye Roto Ray light that rotates with 3 lights. I do have one broken red lamp lense on this Roto light that I am trying to find a replacement for, it is manufactured by the S and M Lamp Company of LA California which is still in business. Federal 15A JR beacons on the back are restored as well. The siren is unbelievable and provided by Federal Q2 siren with a working break. There is an air horn also which is powered by using its own compressor hidden under the hood
